Service Description

Throw Art Studio’s Ann Arbor Summer Pottery Camp introduces children ages 5 to 10 to hands-on ceramics in a working studio. Campers learn real clay techniques while building confidence and creativity through age-appropriate instruction. What Kids Will Experience: Campers work with clay through guided exploration and structured handbuilding projects using pinch, coil, and slab techniques. Instruction emphasizes experimentation, problem-solving, and understanding how clay behaves as a material. During the week, campers will: Explore creative clay projects Learn how clay is recycled and reused Create projects designed to be fired Learn how kilns work and observe how pottery is loaded Finished work returns as real ceramic pieces, fired in our kilns at temperatures exceeding 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit. This structure allows kids to explore freely while ensuring their favorite creations are strong, safe, and built to last. Each session is limited to six campers per age group. Sessions are limited to twelve total campers - 6 in the young age group, and 6 in the older group. Staff to student ratio is kept at 1:4 throughout the camp. Dates: Four-day camps running from June through August Time: Tuesday through Friday, 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM Location: Throw Art Studio in Ann Arbor Pricing and Registration: $399 per child What to Bring: Water bottle Nut-free snack Clothes that can get dirty. Clay will wash out, but glaze can stain! Safety and Supervision: Campers remain inside the facility at all times. Staff conduct frequent check-ins and headcounts. Safety in the studio is prioritized at all times, and equipment and kiln areas are carefully managed by instructors. Firing and Pickup of Finished Work: Campers may keep one guided project per day, with the final day reserved for glazing. A maximum of five pieces from camp will be fired and returned. Instructors guide children to create pieces likely to survive the firing process. Breakage can occur during drying or firing and is a normal part of working with clay. Finished work is typically ready for pickup two to three weeks after camp ends. Families will be notified when pieces are ready.
