Service Description
This 4 week beginner pottery course covers the basics of wheel throwing, trimming, and glazing once per week. You WILL learn how to throw on the wheel and set up your own home studio in these 4 weeks! In addition to scheduled lessons, you can come in for optional practice sessions each week during our membership studio time. KEEP everything you can fit on an 11" circular bat to be fired at the end of class. Everything is included! Materials, firings, open studio time, make-up sessions. Missing a day of class? No problem! Schedule a make-up session with us during the week and we will give you a catch-up lesson. Please try to make the scheduled lessons for the best class experience. Our studio is located on the Homes Campus, which offers excellent food & drinks. Feel free to step outside for a break to enjoy the sunshine and bring your drinks back inside the studio. Beginner/Intermediate Wheel Throwing Course This 4-week course is open to all but is designed for students with prior wheel experience—either from a past course at Throw or another studio. Classes move quickly, focusing on form, scale, and consistency. New students are welcome but should be ready for a faster-paced learning environment. Class 1: Quick review of studio safety, clay prep, and centering. Intro to coning and shaping. Goal: Re-establish comfort on the wheel and throw multiple basic forms. Class 2: Wall pulling techniques, bowl and cylinder variations, refining control. Goal: Throw two well-formed bowls and one 6"+ cylinder. Class 3: Focus on consistent height and shape. Throwing sets (cups or small bowls). Goal: Throw matching forms and work toward repetition. Class 4: Larger forms—tall cylinders, vases, and basic lidded pieces. Goal: Push your scale and skill—aim for a 10–12” cylinder or more complex form. Open Studio: To get the most out of this course, students must practice outside of class. Open studio access is included and is essential to your progress. Hours: Wed–Fri 2:30–8:30 PM, Sat–Sun 12–5 PM. In the final week, you will submit the pieces that you want the studio to fire. You will use brush on glazes for your pieces in the last session of the course from Amaco, Spectrum, & Mayco. You are allowed to bring your own glazes in from those brands, which will be discussed in the course! All finished creations will be ready for you to collect approximately 3-4 weeks after the class concludes.
